People, of either sex, who are retired or nearly-retired from a wide range of occupations.

Members must be over 55 but there is no upper limit. Current members' ages range from 60 to 90+.

What is the club’s purpose?
Probus is a lunch club that provides an opportunity to meet friends and hear informative and entertaining talks,
covering a range of subjects, some local and some based on members' interests.
Do you have any other activities?
We have one-day outings three times a year to places of interest.
When do you meet?
Lunchtime on the third Thursday of each month at 12 noon.
Where do you meet?
The Swan Hotel in Harleston.
What happens at the meetings?
We chat in the bar, followed by a brief session of club business. We then have lunch and a speaker.
How would I remember people’s names?
Everyone has a name badge.
Is it formal?
No. There is no formal code but members will be in smart casual dress.
Can I just turn up?
Sorry no. The restaurant has to have a minimum 24 hours notice of numbers in order to organise the food.
How much does it cost?
£10 per year for membership and £15 for each meeting you attend, including the talk and two-course lunch with coffee.
Who runs the club?
A small committee elected from within the membership
Is the club part of a wider organisation?
Yes. There are PROBUS clubs across this country, and others, but each one is completely independent.
Are all PROBUS clubs the same?
Not really, although they do all have the same purpose. Some clubs are men only and some both ladies and men.
Does the club do fund-raising activities?
No. That is not the raison d'etre for Probus.
Where do I start if I am considering becoming a member?
You are welcome to come along as a visitor until you make your decision. Please phone the Secretary first.
Can members bring guests?
Most certainly. This is how we get most of our new members.
Is it a men-only club?
No. We do have lady members.
